The science of life

Ayurveda

A holistic tradition that seeks balance across body, mind, senses and daily life.

Ayurveda — the science of life

Ancient knowledge for holistic wellbeing

“Sarve Santu Niramaya” — May all be free from illness.

Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit words Ayu, meaning life, and Veda, meaning knowledge. It brings philosophy, observation and medicine together, with attention to the wellbeing of both body and mind.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, Ayurveda considers constitution, digestion, lifestyle, environment and mental wellbeing when planning care.

The foundation

Understanding Tridosha

Three bio-energetic principles describe patterns of movement, transformation and structure.

Vata

Associated with air and space, Vata relates to movement, communication and circulation.

Pitta

Associated with fire and water, Pitta relates to digestion, metabolism and transformation.

Kapha

Associated with earth and water, Kapha relates to structure, stability and nourishment.

A whole-person approach

The holistic path to wellness

Ayurveda aims to restore balance and align daily life with nature. Depending on the individual, guidance may include diet, routines, herbal support, yoga, meditation and therapeutic procedures.

Panchamahabhuta

The five elements of life

Ayurvedic thought describes all matter through earth, water, fire, air and space. Their different expressions help explain constitution, qualities and changing states in the body and environment.

Cleansing and restoration

Panchakarma

Panchakarma is a specialised set of therapies selected after consultation. Its purpose is to support cleansing, restore doshic balance and create the conditions for rejuvenation. It is not appropriate for everyone and should be undertaken under qualified supervision.
